What is MOPS?

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a grassroots movement that believes moms are world influencers. MOPS of the South Shore is a community that strives to meet the needs of every mom with children from birth through kindergarten.

We also believe that incubating hearts and giving just-because-hugs can change the course of history. That’s why we connect moms all over the world to a community of women, in their own neighborhoods, who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped and to find our identity by journeying along side one another.

MOPS recognizes that all moms share a desire to be the very best moms they can be. At MOPS, you’ll be welcomed, accepted and inspired to reach your full potential and recognize your influence within your family and the world!

During MOPS meetings, children are cared for in a program called MOPPETS, with experienced caregivers in a preschool-like setting.

  • How much does MOPS cost?
$50 for the whole year.  This covers childcare, craft materials, and speakers fees. The first three meetings are free so that you can try it out before you commit. We need this funding to run our group, but scholarships are available if needed.
  • I already go to a playgroup with my child. How is MOPS different?
MOPS is about you as a woman and a Mom. It offers time out for Moms and an opportunity for your needs to be met. Children are cared for while you are at MOPS. When you take care of yourself, you are more capable of taking care of your children.
  • I am not a Christian. Can I still come to MOPS?
MOPS welcomes ALL mothers of preschoolers regardless of age, marital status, or religion. MOPS is a wonderfully diverse group of women.
  • What is the childcare available during MOPS like?
MOPPETS is a childcare program run by volunteers who care about your child. There is a dedicated room for children ages 0-3 and an older kids room for those aged 3-5. In addition to playing, little ones will also enjoy crafts and snacks.
  • What if I don’t know any of the other Moms?
One of the best things about MOPS is getting to meet other local Moms. We are all here because we want to connect and make friends. You will be assigned to the same table each week, where you will be able to get to know women better week after week, in addition to activities with the larger group.

This September MOPS is coming to South Weymouth Church of the Nazarene. You may click here for updated information and meeting times.
